New Light

New Light

Light shapes the architecture and space in the station. Over the past 4 years, the municipality of Eindhoven, NS (Dutch Railways), and ProRail have been building a station that meets the needs of both travelers and the city. It’s not only Eindhoven’s culture and history that demand a station of light, but light is also essential to create an attractive travel and stay environment, as the station serves as one of the main arteries connecting the North and South sides of the city.

Under the glow of a fully illuminated ceiling, passengers rush through the new station towards their trains, traveling from North to South. Architect Luc Veeger has designed a ceiling of light for this new passage, adding a serene calmness amidst the hectic bustle of a station.

The light ceiling consists of 100% recyclable foil with the latest LED lighting mounted above it. LED lines are integrated into the structural glass roof beams. All lighting is energy-neutral thanks to the integrated solar panels in the glass roofs and on the platform canopy. This architectural integration of sustainable materials, lighting techniques, and energy supply completes the NEW LIGHT in the station. Light remains the essence in architecture.
