Dragonfly

Dragonfly

Emmadistrict

The light artwork Dragonfly offers a unique perspective on the connection between technology and nature, fully developed by the student team from the BeCreative minor at Fontys Engineering. Guided by the theme The Streams, each team member began exploring possible light art concepts. It quickly became clear that all ideas aligned and that a waterworld theme was the common starting point. While creating a complete waterworld wasn’t realistic, they explored which water creature resonated most with them. They eventually chose the dragonfly, which inspired them immediately with its graceful movement and mechanical potential.

The Dragonfly light artwork is a mechanical dragonfly, with wings that move hypnotically up and down through a custom-designed mechanism. This movement highlights the beauty of the dragonfly and draws attention to the threat of extinction this species faces. The artwork also showcases what is possible with technology and innovation, bringing nature and technology together in a single piece. The dragonfly symbolizes the flow of light and technology through the city. Its dynamic motion and illuminated elements create a visual connection between the natural world and Eindhoven’s technological progress. Thanks to their technical backgrounds in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive, Electrical Engineering, and Creative Business, they have created an artwork that fascinates both visually and technically, offering visitors a smooth and enchanting experience.

Over de kunstenaar

Fontys Engineering

For the GLOW Festival in Eindhoven, a team of students created six luminous dragonflies, where nature and technology merge. The project started with a creative concept developed by an initial group of students and was then technically realized by a second team. They are a diverse group of young students with backgrounds in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive, Electrical Engineering, and Creative Business, driven to create innovative installations. By combining teamwork and technical skills, they aim to develop creative solutions and unique experiences that inspire visitors, showcasing the power of collaboration and innovation in a challenging and creative environment like GLOW.
