Waterbollen

Every drop counts is a unique light artwork about drinking water. Jan Fabel, Pim Rongen, and Erwin Steylen created this piece specifically for GLOW in collaboration with Brabant Water and with the support of De Tongelreep. It takes us on a journey through time, from 1904 to 2024, showing how unique and essential water is for us. From a heavy rainstorm to the convenience of clean water from the tap—these are steps we often overlook in our daily lives. Every drop counts brings these moments to life on the Water Spheres of Brabant Water, giving you a moment to reflect on the clean drinking water that we have at our disposal 24/7.

The three white spheres move like water droplets, bouncing and splashing against the edges, until everything seems to come to a standstill. Then, a fist appears, breaking this stillness and slowly setting everything in motion again. Cracks form, releasing slow brown droplets that slide down. This reminds us of a time when clean drinking water was not a given. The spheres then fill with rainwater, overflowing and reaching the ground to continue the cycle.

This projection not only tells the story of water but also highlights the technological advancements of the past century. From the first water pumps to the modern convenience of clean water from the tap, the artwork raises awareness of the water cycle and how innovations like water purification have transformed our daily lives. It emphasizes the connection between humans and nature, reminding us how extraordinary it is that we in the Netherlands have daily access to pure drinking water.
