Regionaal Historisch Centrum
The impressive building of the Regionaal Historisch Centrum (RHCe) tells the story of our past, filled with old memories and cultural heritage. In contrast to the history preserved inside, the building has a modern and abstract appearance.
The RHCe manages no less than 13 kilometers of analog archives and 19 TB of digital records from twenty municipalities in the Southeast Brabant region. The depots contain remarkable heritage that is considered part of the collective memory of the region. The RHCe is part of the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region and focuses on the past, present, and future. In Sediments, Casa Magica pays homage to this heritage. They bring what is preserved inside to life on the building’s façade. The static visual projection displays graphic patterns symbolizing the books and archive folders carefully stored within. You can see the spines of archives light up, representing the stories kept behind the walls.
Many visitors come to the RHCe in search of their ancestors or to trace their family tree. When you turn around, you’ll see an old tree with wide, sprawling branches across from the building. It serves as a symbol of time. As a connection to the past, with deep roots anchoring it in the ground and new life growing from it, it reflects what can be found inside. You can see elements of the tree reflected in the projection.
Sediments invites you, as a visitor, to pause and reflect on history, and to see it literally light up in a tribute to the past.
