Skyway

Beursgebouw

Since time immemorial, we have looked up at the stars above us. Slowly but surely, we began to understand their movements and gained a better picture of the universe. When the telescope was invented, a whole new world opened up; the Earth was no longer the center, but just one of many planets orbiting the sun.

Nowadays, seeing the clear night sky is becoming increasingly rare due to light pollution. In a city like Eindhoven, the space above us remains hidden behind the city lights, while in nature reserves, you can suddenly discover much more. With Skyway, Team IGNITE aims to highlight this contrast between city and nature, inviting you to pause and reflect on the overwhelming vastness of the universe and the enclosed feeling of the city. Everyone experiences this in their own way, and Skyway has found a unique way to transform all these reflections into something interactive. The rediscovery begins in Eindhoven, where light pollution is translated into an artificial cloud of illumination. As you shift your gaze toward the sky, you are guided by lights moving through the veins of society, weaving between buildings and streets. But as your gaze is drawn through the artwork, you slowly arrive at an open, clear sky. And suddenly, it’s there: a breathtaking starry sky. A sight that is becoming increasingly rare in our modern lives.
