Opening GLOW

The Lichttoren, 18:30 PM

On Saturday, November 11th at 6:30 PM, GLOW 2023 begins. The clock is counting down to the starting signal of a week filled with warmth, art, and light, transforming Eindhoven into a spectacle of creativity.

The Lichttoren, as an iconic landmark of the city, will serve as the epicenter of this moment. With Rhythm and Evolution of Life, the light artworks by ASML coming together on the Emmasingel, you are welcomed into a new city. The Emmasingel will never be the same again.

Kids Opening

DOMUSDELA Park, 6:15 PM

In Hugo Vrijdag’s light artwork, 6000 children contributed drawings and 3D flowers for ‘I spy, I spy…’ Hundreds of self-portraits, peering at GLOW’s visitors, hang in the Paterskerk. On Sunday, November 12th, we will gather with all the young artists in DOMUSDELA’s outdoor park to view the light artwork. Join us with your nephews, nieces, and (neighborhood) children, and join us at 6:15 PM for a special evening.

Diwali

The Market Square, opening from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM

For the first time during GLOW, we celebrate the Indian festival of light: Diwali. Diwali is celebrated in many Indian traditions and other religions; it symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.” From Sunday, November 12th, to Friday, November 17th, you can visit the Diwali festival and witness – thanks to the Indian Center In Netherlands – hundreds of lights on the island of the Market Square.

Lecture: Philips' Industrial Footprint in the Netherlands

The lecture on Philips’ industrial footprint in the Netherlands will be presented by Philips Manager Bert Tip. A journey through time of 132 years, based on the recently released second – fully revised – edition of his book “Philips in the Netherlands.” You can purchase Bert Tip’s book in the Museumshop.

Prefer to experience GLOW at a more relaxed pace and in a quieter setting? Consider visiting the light festival on Monday, November 13th. On this evening, you can avoid the largest crowds and fully enjoy the light artworks. This night is also suitable for wheelchair users.

Het Schaduworgel travels through the streets of Eindhoven and the villages. On the facades, moving shadows narrate the anecdotes and experiences of homeless individuals, refugees, nuns, and the elderly. The images and experiences they have encountered may be quite familiar. Come and witness this interactive light artwork.

Talent Awards by GoodHabitz

Every year, the Talent Award sheds light on emerging talents from the region. Student teams from various educational institutions such as SintLucas, Design Academy Eindhoven, Fontys Hogescholen, and TU Eindhoven participate in the Awards to win a prestigious prize. On Thursday, 16-11, the winners of the Jury Award and the Audience Award will be announced. Join us too!

Lecture: Gerard Philips

The lecture on Gerard Philips will be given by Sergio Derks, Manager of the Philips Heritage Organization and will elaborate on the life, work and significance of founder Gerard Philips and his company. Zaltbommel-born engineer Gerard Philips, together with his father, founded the light bulb factory in 1891 that would grow into the global concern we know today.
