Breathe

Breathe

Frans Joseph van Thielpark

Like a rhythmic beacon of tranquility, the light installation Breathe towers between the city’s buildings. A human figure, kneeling, with hands resting on the thighs. Blue light beams through the chest, like a gentle breath. Organs take on color. As the figure exhales, the glow fades, as if air were truly flowing out of the lungs.

Looking at this image, you can’t help but join in. Place your feet firmly on the ground, put your hand on your chest, and feel the air flowing into your lungs. Exhale—one, two, three—and feel reborn. Breathing is so natural, and yet it is the most important sign of life. From our first breath to our last: it’s always there. And yet we hardly ever pause to think about it. With this work, Markus Anders invites you to do just that—consciously. To reconnect with your body and with others around you. Inhale, reflect, and feel connected. Will you breathe with us?
