Equilibrium

Austrian artist Teresa Mar creates collages, sometimes static in the form of prints or paintings, and other times as dynamic projections on buildings. For GLOW, she realizes a projection that covers the entire facade of the Catharinakerk.

The projection is composed of images from the internet, advertisements, newspapers, and magazines. Teresa Mar blends these images into a colorful composition that slowly changes in character and mood. Some images, such as women’s faces, human figures, or angels, remain recognizable. However, most images are so manipulated, cut, and rotated that they can only be perceived as abstract shapes.

For Teresa Mar, life can be reduced to a search for the balance between light and darkness, which requires moments of silence and contemplation. The church provides space for these moments. With “Equilibrium,” she connects the church as a mystical place with a flow of images where the opposites of figuration and abstraction, as well as light and darkness, form a delicate balance.
