Flower of the Universe

Flower of the Universe

Flower from the Universe* is a floating, interactive light installation where people and plants meet, respond to one another and create something new together.

Step into the world of the flower and it begins to respond. Sensors capture the colours of visitors and translate each presence into light. Colours mix, flow into one another and leave traces of every encounter behind. No two moments are ever the same. The image truly comes to life through the people who enter the space.

At the heart of the flower is a neuron, a symbol of the continuous exchange between an organism and its environment. Just as a nerve cell receives and passes on signals, *Flower from the Universe* senses its surroundings and responds with light. Technology takes a step back here, becoming a means to make our connection with nature visible and tangible.

Plants are the foundation of life. They nourish us, purify the air we breathe and connect us to the living world. Yet in our daily lives, we rarely stop to consider this.

Flower from the Universe* invites us to experience that connection anew. Not by explaining it, but by creating it together. You bring the colour, the flower responds, and together you create something that could not exist without that encounter. Every encounter changes the work. The installation thus becomes a living, ever changing image of a simple thought: we do not exist separately from nature. We are part of it, and every encounter leaves a trace.

About the artist

Titia Ex

Visual artist Titia Ex works with light. She creates her work as sculptural installations in spatial environments. Most of Ex’s artworks are created for specific locations, both in urban and natural landscapes. Each setting poses a particular question that the artist explores, developing possible answers. Her responses offer a tangible way to experience a location differently through light sculptures.

She creates an experience while demonstrating a strong sense of aesthetics. With her work, Titia Ex searches for a personal, expressive form of beauty. Above all, she stimulates the viewer’s sensory curiosity.

Her work has been exhibited around the world, including in Tokyo, New York, Istanbul and London. Her work is also part of various collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and The Donnell Library for the Performing Arts in New York City.
