Wilhelminaplein

On the night of September 17, 1944, the sky was ablaze with fire and sound. Beneath the moonlight, faint lines began to form, and constellations seemed to dance. As the night gave way to dawn, the horizon filled with new colors—hues that symbolized hope and renewal.

Eighty years ago, Eindhoven was liberated, and its citizens celebrated by placing small lights in their windows, an act now immortalized as the “Lichtjesroute” (Route of Lights). Syntropia by Cindy Lo retraces this path, revisiting the homes that once glowed in gratitude, welcoming the soldiers with light. The videomapping at Wilhelminaplein offers a dreamlike journey through lines, shapes, and patterns. Inspired by the poem Handpalm Papier by Michel K., Cindy Lo reflects:

“What moves me is the idea that from the darkness of war, a beam of light emerges—a line that, much like in Michel K.’s poem, sketches a new landscape amidst the chaos, symbolizing the journey toward rediscovering hope and love. A landscape that heals itself, gathers the waters, and brings forth new life—much like syntropic agriculture, which harnesses energy and cycles it towards abundance.”

Syntropia is not only a tribute to history but also a celebration of peace, beauty, ecology, and unconditional love.

About the artist

Cindy Lo

Cindy Lo is a visual artist based in France, graduated as an illustrator and film animator in Paris. Her creations seamlessly move between the worlds of imagery and experience. She creates short films and monumental 360° projection shows, with six years of free assignments for the Sharjah Light Festival on her resume.
