Kemphorst

Gemeentehuis, Oirschot

In this school project, children explore the power of storytelling. Inspired by Scheherazade and Trajan’s Column, they create shadow figures and illuminated drawings. Each class comes up with a part of the story and passes it on to the next class, which builds on what came before. In this way, a single story takes shape, with every child adding their own ideas.

All the drawings eventually came together in a series of beautiful, illuminated columns. These now have a place in the town hall of Oirschot, giving the children’s work a life beyond the classroom and allowing others to enjoy the stories they created together.

About the artist

Kempenhorst College

The students of Kempenhorst College’s Technology and Innovative Craftsmanship (TIV) programme combine creativity, design and technology. For GLOW, they are creating a lamp made entirely out of cardboard. They bring their ideas to life, exploring how design and technology come together to create an innovative final piece.
