Albert van Abbehuis

After working as a lighting designer at Philips Lighting for 14 years, Har Hollands founded an independent lighting design agency in 1998. Although based in Eindhoven – ‘the city of light’ – in the Netherlands, he works on an international level. His lighting design focus on creating adaptable architectural lighting effects and atmospheres. For him, light generates a feeling of safety and security and facilitates orientation. Being a tool of communication, it enhances the singular qualities of moments and places, creates atmosphere, and acts as an instrument in the hours of darkness: the domain of fantasy. 

In this search for suitable lighting adaptations, which must be found within constraints such as budget, time, standards, and sustainability requirements, something else is also discovered during the process. Part of these accidental findings are shown in Van Abbehuis: installations that harness the poetic, dramatic, and power of light.
