Mouttorens
In Binnenwereld, Fren Klomp explores the tension between what is visible and what withdraws from sight. The Malt Tower of Lieshout has been a landmark to him for as long as he can remember, something grand, something unknown. As a child, he wondered what happened inside. That unknowing set his imagination in motion.
Now, many years later, that sense of wonder returns through light and image. What we see are extreme close-ups: landscapes on a molecular level that resemble aerial photographs of unfamiliar worlds. They seem to shift between inside and outside, between reality and fantasy.
Each projection offers a new view into the unknown, like clouds that continually change shape. Through light, the boundaries between micro and macro begin to blur. What is small appears infinite. What is large suddenly becomes intimate.
Binnenwereld is an ode to looking. To not-knowing. To the power of imagination that arises when you allow yourself to pause in front of what you do not understand.
This year we celebrate twenty years of GLOW with a brand-new edition in Lieshout. You will also find another work by Fren Klomp on the hill. This special installation, created in co-creation with residents of ORO Laarbeek, is absolutely worth a visit as well.
