Maybe it’s because of their delicate, slender wings. Their often magnificent colors. Or because they climb from their dark cocoon into the light, heralding spring and summer. Butterflies capture our attention. And the butterflies you see in Best draw us in even more. They brighten the dark November evenings, awakening our longing for the sun, fresh green grass, and blossoming flowers. They symbolize connection, new life, reflection, and change.

ASML and Efteling created Connecting your Love for GLOW 2022, to bring visitors of the light festival together. Since then, the butterflies have flown from Eindhoven to Eindhoven Airport, to the Winter Efteling, and to Máxima Medical Center. This year they land in Best, along the path leading to St. Odulphus Cemetery.

Connecting your Love is inspired by an ancient Chinese myth. According to this folk tale, butterflies form a bridge once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh month. Across this bridge, lost lovers find each other again, no matter how far apart they may be. A beautiful, heartwarming thought. Follow the butterflies and let your mind flutter along: who or what are you thinking of tonight?

About the artist

ASML & Efteling

ASML is a manufacturer of photolithography systems used in the production of electronic chips. For years, ASML has created light artworks for GLOW with its own employees in the GLOW Labs. These projects begin in January and culminate in November with a true work of art.

ASML is eager to pass on its knowledge to younger generations. The expertise of engineers from one of the Netherlands’ leading technology companies, combined with the energy and skills of tomorrow’s talent, has produced a work of art that celebrates and connects the entire Brainport community.

Efteling is a theme park and has been masterful at telling and bringing to life fairy tales, folklore, and myths for seventy years.
