Whoever thinks of Helmond, thinks of… the cube houses.
A perfect reason for the Helmond Praktijkcollege, together with students from Helmond and the surrounding area, to create a light artwork as an ode to the city’s iconic pole houses. Together with GS Staalwerken, Elektro Vogels, and Ledkoning, the students fabricated no fewer than one hundred scale cube houses, each filled with lights pulsing to music. They are also supported by Janssens Verreiker Verhuur, and J vd Vrande Bedrijfskleding has provided all students with suitable printed workwear.
For the students and for OMO Scholengroep, this was a unique opportunity to participate in such a large project as GLOW artists for the very first time. The complete artwork was divided into several working groups. Every student who was interested chose a group, such as media, assembly, metal, electrical, hard workers, host or hostess, or music, and went through a realistic job application process to join their chosen team. A valuable learning experience, outside the classroom and in close collaboration with professional partners.
The city creates GLOW, and in this case that becomes very visible. The result of this combined effort, besides many valuable lessons for the students, can be seen in the Frans Joseph van Thielpark. What feelings do these cheerful cubes evoke in you?
