First GLOW

First GLOW

Stadhuisplein

Like a true tidal wave, the immersive light artwork First GLOW surges around you — you hear it, feel it, see it, tumble through it, and resurface once more. With breathtaking animations projected onto the City Hall, light collective Maincourse takes you on a journey straight through evolution, biology, and history, brought to life through modern technology. With First GLOW, we celebrate the wonder of light together with you. Look, listen, and experience — this is something you simply can’t miss!

Maincourse zooms in on what existed before the discovery of artificial light. Using spectacular AI-powered 2D and 3D effects, the collective fully immerses you in the history of natural light sources that have always existed in nature. They set the City Hall ablaze, make it drip with molten lava, and let it shimmer with bright fireflies. Travel from the Big Bang to the discovery of fire, and step back into the dark night feeling enriched by the experience.

GLOW turns twenty this year — and we’re not letting that go unnoticed. This phenomenal light artwork is a gift from our partners: a gift to the city of Eindhoven and to you, our visitor. Together, we create GLOW — for twenty years and counting. Will you join the celebration?

About the artist

Maincourse
& Michel Suk

Maincourse is an Eindhoven-based collective consisting of Reinier Reynhout and Mark Vankan. The inspiration for First GLOW came from their travels: during a sailing trip near the Azores, Mark spent nights admiring the sparkling spectacle of bioluminescent algae, while Reinier experienced the immense primal power of active volcanoes in Iceland. The duo shares a deep fascination with natural light.

Maincourse is based in the Klokgebouw, a former Philips factory. From there, they design, create, and produce their work. They collaborate on projects in the business-to-business market, contribute to live events, TV commercials and design, and create social media content. Their expertise lies in film, 3D/2D animation, and working with AI.

Michel Suk has been involved with GLOW for two decades — both behind the scenes and with his own projects. Think of Out of the Blue (2007), Rejoice in the Lamb (2010), Schoonheid van stagnatie (The Beauty of Stagnation, 2011), Transformatie (Transformation, 2012), State Machine (2014), and Opening Stadhuis (City Hall Opening, 2015). Since 2016, Step into the Light has been featured in several editions, and this year it returns to the route in Helmond!

In collaboration with Maincourse, Michel Suk contributed to the development of the lighting design and project.
