Boterkerkje

It feels like a dream when you enter the small and modest Boterkerkje in Oirschot. In the space hangs a huge chalice made of woven steel. Through its reversed sense of scale, this giant flower questions the power and fragility of nature. As strong as this flower appears here in full glory and filled with light, nature around us is just as delicate. This work is not only breathtakingly beautiful, it also makes us reflect. How do we ourselves deal with life and the life around us?

The works of Cédric Le Borgne appear and disappear, drifting between dream and reality. For him, space is a playground, a place to meet and share. What impression does this work make on you? Share it with one another and feel connected.

In Oirschot you will find two more works by this artist. At the back of the Boterkerkje you will come across Sitting Boy and further along Molenstraat you will find Flying Man. All sculptures are part of Cédric Le Borgne’s Voyageurs. As the artist himself says: The travellers watch over us. They take care of us. They play with us. They spark our imagination.

About the artist

Cédric Le Borgne

Cédric Le Borgne was born in Paris in 1972 and lives and works in Toulouse. After studying applied arts at the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan in Paris, he created his first works in Toulouse in 1997. Since then, his artworks have travelled the world.

I began this project after a long world trip. I observed daily life in Pakistan, India, China, Egypt and Chile. At the same time I monitored myself. I was searching for my place in the world. I came home and wanted to express myself as an artist in my own environment, in my own street. In the late nineties I installed my first Travellers together with friends in the streets of my neighborhood in Toulouse, using streetlights or car headlights with a battery. It was like a game, it was really fun. Later they travelled the world, from Geneva to Seoul, from London to Singapore.
