Garden Van Abbenmuseum
In nature, light plays an important role: it is essential for growth and bloom. You could even say that light brings transformation. A seed becomes a sprout, and a sprout grows into a mature plant. It is no coincidence that light symbolizes renewal and change.
This is precisely the dynamic that Garden of Flowers visualizes. A large flower-shaped installation hangs beneath a lamp. The structure consists of one central flower surrounded by thirty smaller flowers. The petals slowly and carefully open. After the largest one opens, the smaller ones follow. One by one, they unfold, like a smooth wave. First, the flowers in the center take their turn, followed by those on the edges. The light from above gently awakens the artwork.
As a visitor, you witness this special process that, in accelerated form, mimics the symbiosis between light and flowers. You can clearly see: light gives life. And perhaps it will help you, in these dark days, to start longing for spring and summer, for which nature is already eagerly preparing itself.
