De Kiosk

They immediately draw attention: two enormous glowing eyes right on De Plaatse in Veldhoven. With an open gaze they look out at the world, curious and full of expectation for what is to come. Artist Hermes Mangialardo did not create this artwork by coincidence. He sees our eyes as a boundary between the known and the unknown and as the connection between our mind and the enchanting world around us. Every gaze, he says, is a dance, a symphony of emotions blending within the sea of eyes that reflect our inner restlessness or calm.

Each eyeball has a diameter of 3 meters. They are made of nylon. A fan inflates the eyeballs and they are illuminated from within. Through sound the artist takes you as a viewer on an emotional and conceptual journey through the many dimensions of seeing. The physical, the inner, and the metaphysical. It fits well with this year’s GLOW theme because without light there is no sight. Walk around the eyes or stand in front of them for a moment and gaze into these enormous illuminated spheres. What does seeing mean to you?

This year we celebrate twenty years of GLOW with you. Old and new works alternate throughout the event. This particular piece is a familiar one. It could already be seen last year in Best.
