Our Shadow

Do you always behave the same way everywhere? Probably not… Most people adjust their behavior depending on the situation. With family and friends, we often act very differently than we do at work or school. Sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously, we adapt our behavior. With the work Our Shadow, Sophie and Mees – two Creative Technologies students at SintLucas – show that people are made up of far more than just the single layer that might seem visible on the surface.

Our Shadow consists of four lamps in different colors, spread across two rail systems. As a visitor, you are an inseparable part of this work. Stand in front of the installation, play with the different color combinations, and see what happens.

In daily life, we assume that everyone has just one shadow because we usually only see one tangible shadow. But in reality, we carry multiple ‘shadows’ with us – the different versions of ourselves we present to the outside world. The light installation cleverly makes this visible. It holds up a mirror to you, making you aware of your own behavior as well as that of others. What will you take away from this?
