PING is one of the light art installations that has emerged from the three-year collaboration between GLOW Eindhoven and the Qinhuai Light Festival in Nanjing, China.
Following the impressive project ROOT at GLOW 2017 by Gijs van Bon, ASML and GLOW deepen their partnership for the upcoming years. High-tech company ASML and the Light Art Festival GLOW Eindhoven come together in Ping, the new work by Gijs van Bon, in which traditional Chinese light art merges with interactive applications of light in networks. A unique project that will be showcased both at GLOW Eindhoven and the Qinhuai Light Festival in Nanjing.
“We’re a long-term partner to GLOW, as it relates to what we do on several levels. We focus on light and technology, just like GLOW. We’re happy to support a thriving festival that is a valuable asset for not only the city of Eindhoven but also the city of Nanjing where ASML has an office as well.” Hank Oosterbaan, Global Manager Labor Market Communications, ASML.
_PING translates this into a long line of 250 beacons. They generate a chain reaction of messages recorded by the audience. The lanterns pass on the messages to each other in the form of light and sound, thereby making a dynamic and positive contribution to the streetscape and the community. On the platform at 18 Septemberplein, you can leave your message for the GLOW audience on the GLOW route. Once the message is recorded and the end of the drumstick lights up, you can strike the large Chinese drum. With the strike, you shoot your message into the chain of beacons.
