Quantum Flowers consists of fifteen rafts floating in the Dommel River. Colored plastic bottles are attached to each raft, with an LED light and a solar cell inside each bottle. The light-sensitive cell stores solar energy during the day, allowing the LEDs to glow on their own when it’s dark. At that moment, the PET bottles illuminate in their entirety, creating the appearance of colorful flowers blooming in the nighttime Dommel Park. These artificial flowers, together with the existing vegetation, form a hybrid garden.
About the artist
Francesco Mariotti has been using light in his work since 1968. In recent years, he has completed numerous outdoor projects where his work forms a symbiosis with the natural landscape.
Mariotti builds his work from recycled materials and energy-efficient lighting, enabling him to present light art in a green environment with minimal impact on the environment.
