Heuvel
Big and then small again. Flowing long and spinning short. Pink, green, and blue. The cloud of joyfully dancing, giant soap bubbles instantly catches your eye. This is Reflecting Holons, a light installation by Michiel Martens & Jetske Visser that immerses you in a magical play of light and motion. Literally. Because as you walk among the wondrous balloons, you briefly become part of the artwork yourself. You might even find yourself gently moving along with its rhythm.
Reflecting Holons captivates both young and old. Children, enchanted by its playful design, can’t take their eyes off it. The work is beautiful yet carries a sense of calmness. It’s no surprise that many visitors find peace or inspiration here. Take a moment here in the Heuvel. What does the work do for you?
The magic lies in its simplicity: with light, movement, and clever control, something emerges that momentarily lifts you out of everyday reality. But what are you really looking at? What you see is an illusion: simple, shiny strips come together to form a living light object that is constantly changing. Look at the artwork up close and from afar, move your gaze up and down. No words are needed for this piece: anyone who sees it feels its special quality, regardless of background, age, or gender. Watching, feeling, and letting yourself be carried away, that’s what this light artwork is all about.
Does this piece seem familiar? It might. In 2015, Reflecting Holons was also part of GLOW.
