Shadow Poetry in the Brewery of Verse

During GLOW a rich stream of words flows through the brewery. An ode to light. Together with village poet Roel Timmers and the audience, the Shadow Makers brew a shadow play of language. A story that, like shadow and light, is never fixed but constantly changing.

Silhouettes that follow you on a sunny day. A game that dances across walls and ceilings in winter when the lamps are switched on. Wherever there is light there is shadow. Sometimes a shadow is playful. Sometimes it is exciting or mysterious. Shadow can turn a simple shape or hand gesture into something poetic. In a subtle way shadow adds an extra dimension to the world around us. That is why the Shadow Makers do not put light at the center of their installations but shadow.

In an ode to light we will literally create poetry with shadow this year. We invite you to contribute to the ever changing poem with shadow language. Come and see, create poetry with us and become part of the story that will appear on the facades of the brewery on the Oirschotse Koestraat.

Shadow Lab

Shadow Makers

Isis Boot, Marijn Smits and Luuk Thijssen form the creative collective Shadow Makers. Previously they developed The Shadow Organ which received the Glow Talent Award. The common thread in all their projects is their desire to connect people. Light and shadow challenge visitors to tell the story of Oirschot in a new way and offer unique opportunities to make that story accessible to a wide audience.

Village Poet

Roel Timmers has been appointed village poet of Oirschot for the period 2024 to 2025. Roel is a musician, songwriter and poet. The role of village poet carries a connecting purpose. His motto is that inspiration lies in the street. With that thought always in mind he travels as village poet through the different village centers that make up Oirschot.

The poetry and music of Roel come together in his beautiful theatre performances “From Tennessee to Tivoli” and “One Way Ticket to Mars”. These performances tell unique life stories and can be experienced in the warm red velvet seats of intimate theatres.
