The Eye of Time

For 150 years, the Catharina Church has been witnessing the activities of the people of Eindhoven. Rain, wind, heat, and lightning have often afflicted the city and its inhabitants. In the city, we are less aware of the weather conditions compared to being in nature. In 2013, the French collective CozTen allowed us to relive the power of the elements. “The Eye of Time” was a story about dreams and memories, told from the perspective of the Catharina Church.

Each lightning bolt that appears marks the start of a flashback, focusing on a season or weather condition. Each storyline features different parts of the church. Sometimes, the large rose window is illuminated, while other times, the buttresses or pinnacles are highlighted. Through projections and colorful lights, various episodes from the history of the church are depicted. A soundtrack by composer Enzo Izzi, incorporating sounds of birds, thunder, and wind, as well as traditional and electronic music fragments, enhances the overall experience.
