Your heart is the engine of your body. It pumps your blood around and makes it possible for you to move, breathe, think, and live. But can your heartbeat set even more things in motion? The answer is: yes! This light artwork is a beautiful example of that. Take a seat on the bench and transform your heartbeat into dancing light. From a pounding in your chest to a feast for the eyes!
Does this work look familiar to you? That’s possible! This design by six students from Fontys Engineering was first shown at GLOW 2018. In 2019, the work returned once more. Vena Lumen literally means “heartbeat light.” This installation makes eleven thousand lights dance to your heartbeat, beneath you, in the bench. What feeling does it give you?
GLOW is a festival that we create together — with you, the visitor; with the residents of Eindhoven; with artists; and with students from TU/e, Fontys Universities of Applied Sciences, SintLucas, and Design Academy Eindhoven. In GLOW Academy, talent and expertise come together. That’s how we continue to surprise and inspire. This student project originates from the GLOW Academy, and we proudly present it once again this year, in celebration of the festival’s twentieth anniversary.
