EDGE Eindhoven

It’s a glimpse into the near future of Eindhoven: the EDGE building marks a larger development within this ever-busier city. Over the coming years, the area around Central Station will change irreversibly — and the German light collective Ruestungsschmie.de is already sketching out its contours. They see this particular building as a threshold between two worlds: the lively city and the bustle of the station on one side, and the calm and open space of the Dommel river on the other. It’s a fitting metaphor for the city itself, where nature and humanity must constantly find new ways to coexist.

Through projection and laser mapping, Ruestungsschmie.de transforms the facades into flowing streams of light, turning rigid, solid surfaces into something soft and fluid. Corners and volumes bend, walls shift, and reflections emerge. In dialogue with specially composed music created for this installation, the interplay between stone and water, pulse and echo, deepens. Hard concrete breaks open. What was functional comes to life. The building becomes a living transition — connecting city and river, geometry and flow, the visible and the possible. In doing so, Ruestungsschmie.de shifts our perspective on architecture we usually take for granted, showing us this structure in an entirely new light. Will you look along?

About the artist

Ruestungsschmie.de

Ruestungsschmie.de is a creative collective founded in 2010 by architects Michał Banisch and Filip Modest Szambelan. Both trained as architects and continue to teach at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Dresden, alongside giving workshops, masterclasses, and — most recently — a summer course at ZKM Karlsruhe. The collective specializes in immersive audiovisual installations that transform facades and buildings into living protagonists. Their work has been presented internationally, with projects in Japan, the United States, France, and China. And also at GLOW: last year, their light installation BRUTE³ made the Hooghuis pulse and dance.
