‘Where are we going?’ is not just about light art and technology, as you might suspect after a visit to the Lichtplein. Onda Studio raises some serious questions with its light artwork: ‘How aware are you of yourself and your place on Earth, what are your next steps, and where do you ultimately want to go?’ These are profound issues that some take a lifetime to answer. ‘Where are we going?’ is about our direction in the world, our choices, and the impact of technology on them. It reflects our course, which is (un)consciously determined by the use of technology and the behavior of others.

By creating an audiovisual installation, Onda Studio encourages us to contemplate our next step. ‘We look around and are amazed at how different life has become now that we almost never move without a smartphone that guides us through the day, the streets, and experiences. So, we wonder if the use of technology entirely determines our direction in life or if we still have free will regarding our orientation.’

How does it work?

As a visitor, you are part of ‘Where are we going?’ and move through technology within the light artwork. In the interactive audiovisual installation, you are connected to the twelve LED screens via your own smartphone, assigned a color and sound. Turn around with your smartphone in hand and see how it affects the light and sound artwork. All those sounds and dancing graphics provide a challenge, a game, and a meeting between art, technology, and other visitors. Join this digital adventure and become part of the swarm!
