Chandelier of Connection

Chandelier of Connection

de Markt

Join the kick-off and help set a world record! At GLOW 2024, you can join other enthusiasts to cycle for the world’s largest recycled chandelier. Thanks to VanPetnaarPret and Signify, you can hop on one of the bikes placed on top of the mobile studio from Studio040 and pedal along with thousands of others to create a chandelier of world-class proportions. This kick-off marks the start of a series of recycling events taking place in 2025.

VanPetnaarPret specially designed the bikes to combine three important elements: more movement, more recycling, and fun. All of which are crucial for a healthy future. The bikes act as shredders, where used PET bottles are ground up. It starts with used PET waste that is manually cleaned and shredded with the bike, called The reCycle. This shredded material becomes the raw material for PET lamps, which will form the light globes that are part of the chandelier.

What makes this light art project so special is the intersection of circularity and light art, where thousands of visitors become part of the process. The chandelier in progress is not only aesthetically beautiful but also symbolizes the energy of everyone who cycled to contribute to a common goal. The ambition is to showcase the world’s largest recycled chandelier during GLOW 2025, as a symbol of the opportunities of circularity, collaboration, and connection.

So, hop on one of the bikes and show what you’ve got! Together, we’ll pool our efforts to turn plastic waste into something beautiful. You can follow the progress of the chandelier through GLOW’s channels.

Over de kunstenaar

VanPetnaarPret & Signify

The collaboration between Signify and VanPetnaarPret demonstrates how connection and co-creation between a large and small company can lead to a massive impact. Both companies share the same mission: a sustainable future. By joining forces, they strengthen each other and deliver a powerful message.

Rolph Adriaansen, born in Woensdrecht, began his career as a business economist and made the leap to entrepreneurship in 2016 with VanPetnaarPret. This creative initiative was launched to teach children about recycling and the importance of sustainability in a playful way, through non-refundable PET bottles. The project grew into a success, culminating in the unveiling of ChandelierØ13 at the LocHal. Although Adriaansen does not see himself as an artist, but rather as an entrepreneur who tells stories and connects people, his work is a beautiful blend of art and innovation.

Signify, as the world’s leading lighting company, has always been a pioneer in innovation and sustainability. They strive to push the boundaries of technology and sustainability, as shown by their circular and 3D-printed lighting designs, and their LiFi technology, which uses light to provide internet connections. Their collaboration with VanPetnaarPret is an example of how large and small companies can come together to create innovations that inspire people. Through joint light art projects, they showcase the power of recycling and sustainability, and demonstrate how technology and creativity can light up the future.
