It’s happening more and more often: a fellow human being passes away without anyone noticing. Life stories and memories disappear just like that, like a turned page with no readers. DELA has seen an increase in the number of solitary funerals. This shows how loneliness affects society. Monuments of Loneliness changes this—if only for a moment—during GLOW. This work invites us to reflect on the memories of those who have passed away without anyone noticing. Will you join us?

Monuments of Loneliness is a production by Beeldjutters in collaboration with DELA and Walk of Life. This foundation, founded by street pastor Zwanine Siedenburg, ensures that the life stories of vulnerable people are preserved and shared. Beeldjutters invited visual artists from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines to bring these life stories to life. Through animated light graffiti on the windows of DELA’s office, we show how we can honor their memory with dignity. With colorful animations, we pay tribute to these protagonists, including the dreams and desires that defined them. And we acknowledge the loneliness they ultimately experienced.
