Based on this year’s theme ‘Urban Skin’, Liefde voor de Stad has built a mobile installation that will pop up at various places along the GLOW route.. The Schaduworgel is constructed on a cargo bike that travels through the streets. It is an interactive installation that you will come across by chance – or not. The Schaduworgel illuminates hidden stories that have accumulated over recent years during the pandemic and highlights them on the skin of the city. You will see stories projected onto the walls, roofs and streets. Anecdotes and experiences from different generations of Eindhoven residents who have openly shared their stories. As such, they become a moving show of shadows within the public space, where luckily we can once again come together again.

What kind of stories live under the skin of the city? In Het Schaduworgel the stories of locals are the focus point. The worlds that took place behind the front door during the pandemic are becoming visible. The Schaduworgel has created images and encounters from these individual experiences that are often recognisable for everyone. They could be a cause for reflection, surprise or recognition, and the appreciation of other people’s perspectives. But also an invitation to talk about this together. Now that we can be together again, we want to share these stories. Because sharing is essential for us to feel part of a community.

Liefde voor de Stad

Liefde voor de Stad participated at GLOW for the first time during the lockdown. As a makers collective Isis Boot, Laurie Roijackers, Marijn Smits and Luuk Thijssen developed the concept of the Schaduworgel from various different backgrounds . They all normally focus individually on different topics but have now joined forces under the banner of Liefde voor de Stad.The city is a huge source of inspiration for us. It is the reason that Liefde voor de Stad exists, and it brought us together as a collective. This mission and inspiration are perfect for GLOW. It challenges us to tell the story of the city of light in our own way, namely using light (and shadow). It inspires and provides unique opportunities for telling the story differently than we normally would and to make it accessible for a wider audience in Eindhoven – and its visitors.’

The Liefde voor de Stad initiative strives to connect residents of Eindhoven across the generations with their love for the city. Liefde voor de Stad has organised annual activities since 2015. The motivation behind the network is bringing together different people, backgrounds and ages, so that knowledge, stories and experiences are shared and transferred. In doing so, the city remains connected to its past, present and future.
