In Sight focuses on the Catharina Church. This church was first mentioned in the 13th century and was the only church in the city for a long time. Hundreds of people were buried in and around the original building. In 2002, a small-scale archaeological excavation took place, revealing the remains of a 10-year-old boy who must have lived in Eindhoven around 1300. He was baptized Marcus.
For this project, Groll and Pelz examined the materials used to construct the Catharina Church, as well as DNA material from Marcus, under a microscope. The microscopic images were greatly magnified and projected onto the facade of the church. The organic structures of the historical material divert attention from the architectural construction of the church building, giving the impression of it being pulled out of balance. The sound accompanying the projection is by Rochus Aust.
