Indruk

Indruk

Aldo Hoeben’s work revolves around the use of perspective. He manipulates the rules of perspective to influence our perception of spatiality, not only in panoramic photography but also in installations like “Indruk” (Impression).

For the blind wall at the back of the V&D department store, Aldo Hoeven placed a cabinet with flexible material. Visitors can press this fabric with their hands, and simultaneously, a projection is formed on the wall, creating the illusion that an enormous hand from the inside is exerting pressure on the wall, causing it to deform. The movement of the visitor is precisely tracked in this interactive project.

The artwork surprises the audience with an installation that seems to defy the knowledge that a wall should be rigid and sturdy to support a roof and provide stability to a building. With an interactive projection, the artist creates an illusion in which the solid wall appears to melt and become malleable under the hands of the visitor.
