Morse Code Communication

Morse Code Communication

On the top floor of the GGD building in the city center, Hobza has placed a large number of spotlights in front of the windows. All the lights can be switched on or off simultaneously, allowing them to function as a signaling key. Using Morse code, she sends messages to the residents of Eindhoven, awaiting a response.

Only a few people will be able to recognize the blinking lights as Morse code, understand the encoded message, and then respond to it. Morse Code Communication can, therefore, be seen as a metaphor for problematic communication in general and, in particular, the communication between the artist and the audience.

About the artist

Klara Hobza

Czech artist Klara Hobza draws inspiration from historical research and stories. Based on this, she formulates tasks for herself that are almost impossible to accomplish. However, there is always a small chance of success. Performance is a central element in Hobza’s work. The execution of her self-imposed tasks also results in drawings, texts, and videos.
