The Great Indecision Council

The Great Indecision Council

Who are we really? Who do we want to be? What do we tell Google, within the intimacy of our telephone, that we would rather not share with the rest of the world?

Famous artist Romain Tardy presents visitors of GLOW with an unsolicited self-portrait of our current network society by translating the search terms most frequently used in Google and Google News into visual and audio signals within the public space in real time; pulses that are visible and audible both inside and outside the circle.

The Great Indecision Council is a reflection for us all. An image that shows humanity as it really is, not how it wants to be seen. The work takes the shape of a mesmerizing and hypnotic large-scale light and sound installation, whereby visitors are surrounded by a circle of light, sound, words and computer-generated, mystical chants. The Great Indecision Council invites visitors into the middle of this enchanting work while being watched by spectators close-by, and maybe even far above us.

The Great Indecision Council, an installation by Romain Tardy, was originally commissioned by Into The Great Wide Open. The presentation during GLOW 2018 is offered by MU, STRP and GLOW.

“My name is Romain Tardy. I was born in Paris on September 23, 1984, and studied art and design for four years before deciding it was time for something different. My main goal is to create tangible, offline art installations. I consider my work as digital art. Additionally, I teach graphic design and continue to design myself, including animations (sometimes small-scale, sometimes large, but the screen is certainly not the limit).

I am the co-founder of the European visual label ANTIVJ and worked as an artist in this group from 2008 until the end of 2013. After several years in Paris, I moved to Brussels where I currently live and work. I also love my greenhouse.”

STRP aims to be a critically optimistic guide to a positive future. In this role, STRP has developed an ongoing research program with STRP Festival as the annual highlight. The Great Indecision Council is a POP UP event during GLOW leading up to the STRP Festival from March 30 to April 7, 2019.

MU is an inquisitive explorer in the borderlands of contemporary art: from the post-digital to urban culture and beyond – not only in our exhibition space at Strijp-S but also beyond, as it is now at GLOW.
