In the heart of Eindhoven, spread across the 18 Septemberplein, you will find towering objects by Studio Toer. Candle Lights brings the warmth of small flames to life in a brilliant way, giving you the cozy feeling of candlelight. The installation consists of 18 candles that illuminate the square and radiate hope and freedom during the dark winter months. The candles are a tribute to the 80 years of freedom we celebrated last September and emphasize the value of togetherness.
During the day, Candle Lights sparkles in the sun, winking at everyone walking across the square. In the evening, the installation glows with 1800 light points and 6000 mirrors that transform the square into a true dance floor. The choice to create a light artwork that brings joy both day and night reflects the duality of our existence. It highlights not only the beauty of light and dark but also the significance of the square itself—a place for reflection and celebration of our freedom. The installation invites passersby to pause for a moment and think about the little things in life, such as the hopeful glimmer of a candle.
