Cupola

Cupola

In 2010, Luminarie De Cagna illuminated the Demer. In 2011, they targeted the square in front of the NS station. They erected a dome resembling an Italian Renaissance building like the St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, measuring 25 meters in height and 20 meters in width. The dome became a spectacular and impressive entrance for visitors to the city, with 30,000 lights radiating from the bronze statue of Anton Philips from 1951.

Luminarie De Cagna’s work called “Cupola” was an homage to Anton Philips, who led the Philips corporation for over thirty years during the first half of the 20th century, transforming it into a successful multinational.

About the artist

Luminarie De Cagna

Luminarie De Cagna is an Italian family business founded in 1930, originally illuminating buildings and squares with oil and carbide lamps for festive occasions. They later switched to electric lighting, and since 2006, they exclusively use LEDs for new projects. The lights are connected to create large curtains of light, applied to buildings or stretched over freestanding elements, allowing entire streets and squares to be illuminated.
