De Markt
For the first time during GLOW, we celebrate the Indian festival of lights: Diwali. Diwali is celebrated in many Indian traditions and other faiths. It symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.” From Sunday, November 12th, to Friday, November 17th, you can visit the Diwali festival and witness hundreds of lights on the island of the Market, thanks to Indian Center In Netherlands.
Diwali honors various religious events, deities, and personalities. Such as the day when Rama returned to his kingdom in Ayodhya with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana after defeating the demon king Ravana. The Festival of Lights is also associated with Lakshmi (the goddess of prosperity) and Ganesha (the god of wisdom and the remover of obstacles). Other traditions connect the festival of lights with figures like Vishnu, Krishna, Shiva, and Kali. For example, Newar Buddhists celebrate Diwali by worshipping Lakshmi, while Hindus in Eastern India and Bangladesh worship the goddess Kali.
During the festival, homes, temples, and workplaces are illuminated with diyas (oil lamps), candles, and lanterns. It is a time of homecoming and connection. Will you also come to the Market from November 12th to 17th? It will be a magical gathering of warmth, light, and hope.
