What happens when we look at light together, share stories and meet one another? On Thursday, 12 November, GLOW and Het Stenen Huis bring light art and personal stories together in Light as a Dialogue | Between Us. Together with the audience, Mpanzu Bamenga, Mariachiara Guerra, Machteld Aardse, Femke Kempkes and Ronald Ramakers explore what art, personal experiences and human connection can mean for democracy and living together. An evening to listen, share perspectives and discover what can emerge between people. And an opportunity for you, as a visitor, to create light art on the spot together with Machteld and Femke!

An evening in which we reflect together on our actions and our responsibilities in the present day.

During the programme, Member of Parliament and human rights lawyer Mpanzu Bamenga shares how his personal experiences have shaped his commitment to equality and democracy. From Turin, architect and cultural connector Mariachiara Guerra brings the story of Piero and Ada Gobetti. Their correspondence from the 1920s and their commitment to freedom and resistance provide the starting point for the Turin programme Amare e Resistere (To Love Is to Resist). Short video reports explore what we can learn from their ideas today. Ronald Ramakers, who served as GLOW director for ten years, shares his vision of the power of light art to connect people and the possibilities it offers for the future.

You can contribute too. Together with visitors, artists Machteld Aardse and Femke Kempkes bring stories and memories together to create light on the spot. Through their approach, Performing Urban Memory, they explore how art can help people share the stories and memories connected to a place. Their work for GLOW can be seen this year in Rooted | Democracy of Trees at Frederik van Pruisenweg.
