Paper Trails

Paper Trails

Van Abbemuseum

Paper airplanes. Who hasn’t folded them? These ‘Paper Trails’ by Wayfinders move naturally alongside you. They glide high from light artwork to light artwork. Above the water of the Dommel and skimming past the Van Abbemuseum, they lead you to the next destination. With changing colors and movement through air and water, the airplanes create a magical effect along the route. It might evoke a nostalgic memory of folding paper planes at the kitchen table, a reflection on an imaginative game of children playing. The Paper Trails have a life of their own; with reflections on the shimmering Dommel, you see a continuously changing reflection.

The journey of the Paper Trails began during the GLOW 2021 edition, and since then, they have evolved year after year. Last year, you could even admire the airplanes at Eindhoven Airport, where they acted as true guides accompanying travelers to their next destination. The Paper Trails have been improved with a focus on scalability, customization, and interactivity, guiding you along an illuminated path with rhythmic pulses of color this edition. The night comes to life with their moving animations and interactivity. You simply can’t help but join their ‘The Beat’. Whether you enjoy them during GLOW or in the terminals of Eindhoven Airport, the Paper Trails continue to take you on a journey filled with light and color.

About the artists

Team IGNITE

Team IGNITE is the student team of the Technical University of Eindhoven and the very first Art & Tech team in the Netherlands. The team’s mission is to harness the power of light in public spaces and create meaningful experiences that connect, enrich, and inspire people. In 2021, they made their debut with the projects ‘Ballroom’ and ‘Wayfinding’. Since then, they have grown significantly, forming a team of over 30 students from various disciplines and schools, including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, and Fontys University of Applied Sciences. The team draws inspiration from the world around them, their studies, and each other. What characterizes their work are the interactive elements they always incorporate to create social impact, their creative use of new technology and theory, and their commitment to inspiring (young) people. Visit the projects ‘GLOWBLE’ and ‘Paper Trails: Two Throws’ at GLOW and discover how they shine a light on new possibilities, connect the world with innovative ideas, and provide the audience with meaningful experiences.
