Ultra-Natures is a lush virtual garden projected onto the hard stone tiles of the courtyard at the end of Smalle Haven. Until the late 1990s, this area was the last major vacant lot in the city center. Under the direction of architect Jo Coenen, a design was made for an ensemble that brought together various functions to create a lively area.
In Michel Chevalier’s garden, twelve types of flowers grow, gradually germinating, growing, blooming, and wilting. The shape and color of the flowers cannot be precisely predicted. As soon as a passerby enters the garden, the flowers move away to continue growing in a quieter spot. This fairytale-like work is never the same and depends on the movement of the audience.
