Canal Helmond
An enormous, colorful, and luminous octopus, bathed in the waters of the Helmond canal. It’s not a sight you come across every day. But right now, during GLOW, you can. Come see for yourself!
This impressive octopus, complete with undulating tentacles, is the result of the hard work of students from Praktijkschool Helmond. The tentacles move through mechanical engineering. As a visitor, you witness something remarkable: the octopus comes to life without a single electric motor involved.
With this project, the students of Praktijkschool Helmond forge a mythical connection between art, engineering, creativity, and collaboration. The entire process—from design to execution—was placed in the hands of these students, guided by vocational teachers and regional businesses. Look and marvel. This unique octopus is an experience you won’t want to miss!
Carat, Driessen Groep and Museum Helmond embrace the Octopus. The artwork reflects what Makers of the Future means to them: young people using their hands and ingenuity to build things themselves. Museum Helmond is developing a makers’ lab where these young creators are welcome to further develop their creativity. This project has been made possible in part by De la Roy (Gemert), Stimac (Deurne), Lixero (Deurne) and Van de Vrande Bedrijfskleding (Helmond).
