Van Abbemuseum

Richard’s installation Primary during GLOW The Beat in the Van Abbemuseum consists of a magenta light installation and a series of soundscapes. Soundscapes coming from guitar amplifiers spread over different spaces, constantly overlap each other at different times. As a result, the sound installation as a whole is everchanging. The audience can wander through this immersive installation and experience how the work merges with the environment.

About the artist

Richard Bolhuis

Richard Bolhuis creates intermedia installations in which his ever-transforming soundscapes play a prominent role. Mystery and intuition are the primary elements in his practice.

Richard exhibited his audiovisual installations in The Model (Sligo, Ireland), Hundred Years Gallery (London, England), Groninger Museum and Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam). He is currently working on long-term interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with V2_ Lab for Unstable Media (Rotterdam) and Paradigm (Groningen), in which he examines the symbiotic relationship between ecology and the imagination. His audiovisual installation Spheres is part of the exhibition Into the Black Hole in the Valkhof Museum (Nijmegen). He will work on drawing installations in the outdoor area of the Valkhof Museum and the Radboud University (Nijmegen) until April 2024.
